Shiny things

Ξ June 24th, 2008

No one updates their blogs anymore.  like it was just a brief interesting thing that happened.  Well I refuse to go down without a fight.  In fact I’m just posting to show off a picture of an afternoon of painting.

Chaplain

So there he is in all his glory.  My Space Marine Terminator Chaplain painted in an afternoon.

In other worldy things happening I went to Edingburgh last week and met some lovely people at Rockstar North, and this week I’ll be venturing to London for the second time in my life.  Luckily Julian has given me a number in case I get lost but I think that I should be fine.

Catch up.

Ξ May 29th, 2008

It’s been a while since I last posted. I fully expected on posting sooner, what with having finishing Uni and having some free time and all. Trouble is once I finish Uni work I have more time to play games, so all my new free time just gets taken up with other things. What other things I hear you ask? Well…..

As a small present to myself I bought GTA4 when I finished. I mean come on, everybody else has it why shouldn’t I? My overall opinion of it (discounting the multiplayer that I haven’t really touched yet) is that it is GTA. There’s a new story, a couple of new interesting features (The people who made Euphoria should win Oscars or something), but the underlying game is still GTA. Which for me is great since I have loved every GTA game since they started making them 3D.

Hannah bought me Wii Fit last week. Normally I would think that she was trying to suggest something but I requested it. I originally liked the idea of it for the mini snowboarding game, and any other boarding games that may come out and support the board, but I also thought I might as well try and do 30 minutes of exercise on it each day since I could do with shedding a few pounds. After a week of being a good boy I’m finally getting over the soreness of not exercising in a very long time, and in the coming weeks will hopefully see some results from it. It has actually got to the point now though where I ignore the balance mini games and go more for the fitness things, although I will probably play them more when friends are over.

Job wise I’m applying to a few places that interest me, and even get the odd recruitment agency phoning me up asking if they can forward my CV to some interesting place in the UK, but nothing has turned up yet and I’m left to seek employment in somewhere that may not be in the games industry to get me through the summer.

I also watched a couple of movies recently. I downloaded Looney Toons: Back in Action, on my 360, to see what the quality was like. The quality was good and the movie had everything you would expect from a Loony Toons film, or cartoon for that matter. Watching this movie finally spurred me on to watch Space Jam, which I have never seen. I found it funny but a little bit too cheesy in places, and was slightly annoyed by some of the voices being a little off.

Right now I’m currently looking into using XNA to make a small game using C#. In my second year of Uni I was told that C# would never be considered an industry standard for games, and yet every single interview or job application I have filled in recently asks if I know C#. Now if the uni gave a module on it in the third year I would have happily taken it over one of my others. Instead I get to try and learn in now, by myself. This at least gives me something to do away from being a total couch potato though.

I caved!

Ξ April 29th, 2008

So I wandered into Games Workshop today and finally bought a Venerable Dreadnought for my Space Marines army. I did go in to buy a terminator squad but after realising that it would be the same price as a dreadnought, so then I came to the conclusion I might as well buy something I need (and yes I know the venerable dreadnought is even more expensive).

So having a mega headache for the evening I decided to put it together and show a picture for anyones liking :D

The Tau will be crushed….

…when Dan hurrys up and finishes painting them!

Today was a fun day. Me, Matt, Dan and Gav took a nice day off to wander into town to check out what was happening at Games Workshop for the 25th anniversary of Warhammer. After shortly arriving at around 8.50am we joined the queue of hopefuls hoping to grab whatever the store had to offer in celebration of this prestigious events. Many things were on offer, T-Shirts, Harry the Hammer, limited edition dice and boxes. I was after only one thing, a nice decent goodie bag. Underneath all the tables the staff had kindly arranged bags full of random units and paints and each bag was being sold off at £10 with an average actual worth of £50-£60. I managed to bag one but nothing to pad out my space marine army with. I got some cool Lord of the Rings things and some paints, so not too bad over all since the LOTR stuff was all metal, non of this cheap plastic :D

Once all the interesting items had been sold the fun started to happen. A few people mulled around to play a few games with their favourite units, but the interesting things were happening else where. A little competition took place to create a unit using any pieces possible. We walked in on this scene after lunch and found ourselves left with 10 minutes to create something. Matt was the first to get the urge to start gluing random items together, then with my help (I made the little ork spear dude) we finally created something awesome (yet to be named entries on a postcard in the comment section).

Awesome

Was the models were sprayed with an undercoat the next task was to paint them. This became quite interesting since the only methods available were painting blindfolded, or by holding the paint brush with your mouth. Matt chose to paint ours using his mouth and saved a lot of mess when some of the other entries were seen.

Later on our model was put into battle and didn’t last too long. I am sure if we had more time we could have created something mega though.

Once we got home and rested for a little we decided to make a Warhammer day of it and paint a few models. This gave me the perfect opportunity to finish off a quick building I’ve been working on.

Ruined House

After

Ruined House 2

Not to bad if I say so myself, especially considering it was made out of a fosters box.

I can’t wait to have more days like this when I finish uni!

Who turned on the lights?

Ξ April 14th, 2008

Once again I’m up at a stupid hour of the night finding myself hiding away from work and longing to just go to bed and sleep.  Not that I haven’t been doing work, far from it.  Today using the power of my brain(steam powered) I managed to make a little man on the computer screen move from one side of the screen to the other all on his own.  This will be expanded on of course, he’s going to go crystal hunting next.

While I’m ranting I suppose I should also mention that some of the new clips coming out of Iron Man look pant wettingly awesome! Robert Downey jr looks like he has made the part his own and the humour is exactly as expected from the character.  I honestly can’t to see it, and I may even have to go see the local premiere at whatever god awful time it will be on.

Roll on May 2nd!

I slayed the dragon

Ξ April 11th, 2008

I have won by battle with the dreaded Tiscali.  After a few e-mails they have noticed they were in the wrong, apologised twice and gave me a refund.

Without needing to moan any more my time is now free to play more old games, do work or apply for jobs. I’ll probably end up doing a lot of games playing though, since work is annoying at the moment, and without really attempting to do so I applied for three jobs yesterday!  The less I talk about them the better though, I don’t want to jinx them or anything.

Also, if anyone reading this has access to any old games such as Battlefield 1942 or Unreal Tournament you should join me, Cappsy, Gav and Dan for some real online gaming!

I hate Tiscali!

Ξ April 9th, 2008

After two months of phone calls saying that I won’t be billed for something I didn’t use they go and bill me, and then say that it’s all in their terms and conditions.

Angry e-mails ahoy!

New Blog

Ξ April 9th, 2008

Reading Cappsy’s Blog I decided I should update my own. No one will probably ever read it but hello to anyone who does.

Much better than the one I used to run on blogspot!

At this moment in time I’m knackered as hell waiting for Gav to hurry up and get Unreal Tournament so me and Cappsy can show him how real men play games. Dan may also be used as cannon fodder if he gets in the way.
